WimbOrnE is thE CulturE CatAlySt

a year of cultural activities that bridge the past and the future

where community and culture flow together

Wimborne has always been about community and culture. No matter how far back you go in our town’s history, you find them together.

In the medieval frescoes that once adorned the Minster’s walls and watched over the town’s congregation. In the chained library, where our community was one of the first in the country to have access to valuable books. In the crowds of revellers who come together for Wimborne’s Folk Festival.

Community and culture support one another. They coexist and thrive side by side.

But community and culture don’t just live in the past. They are the lifeblood of our town. And we want everyone who lives here to be a part of them.

WimbOrnE is dorsEt tOwn Of CulturE 2026

Being named Dorset Town of Culture 2026 gives us an unprecedented opportunity to bring our community together and introduce even more people to what makes Wimborne so special.

We are organising an exciting programme of events that will span the whole of the year. Our dream is that the collaborations and connections we all make over the coming months will lead to a more connected and creative community in and around Wimborne for years to come.

We see culture as art, performance, music, sport, heritage and leisure activities. It doesn’t fit neatly into one category. Much like the two rivers that meet in Wimborne, culture is a confluence of ideas and activities, all carried forward by our community.

That’s why we want you to help shape our year of culture by coming along to events, volunteering to support activities and perhaps even running your own sessions.

get involved

Wimborne’s culture is shaped by its wonderful community – and that’s why we want as many of you to get involved with our year as Dorset Town of Culture as possible. Here’s how…

Attend an Event

Check out our packed programme of festivals, performances, workshops, and public art throughout 2026. Many events are free, and everyone is welcome – just show up and be part of the celebration. Visit our Events page to see what's happening.

Volunteer Your Time

Help bring our community events to life! No experience needed – just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to help. Whether you can spare a few hours or want to support multiple events, there's a volunteering opportunity that fits your schedule and interests.

Submit Your Own Project/Idea

Dorset Town of Culture is designed to bring communities together – so we want your ideas! While we've got events and projects in mind, there's always room for more creativity, laughter and connection.

Get Young People Involved

If you work with children or young people, help them connect with Wimborne UPLIFT, our youth-driven festival celebrating art made by and for young people. We can support schools and youth groups to participate and even help facilitate events.

Partner or Sponsor an Event

Local businesses and organisations can play a vital role in making 2026 special. Whether through sponsorship, partnership, or running your own event as part of the programme, we welcome your involvement and support.

Spread the Word

Share our events with friends, family, and neighbours. Sign up for our newsletter to stay updated, and help us build excitement across the community. Your enthusiasm and word-of-mouth support help make culture accessible to everyone.
