help make 2026 happen

Many of our events are community-led and we’re doing our best to provide activities free of charge where we can. That’s where our wonderful volunteers come in. You don’t need any specific skills to volunteer – just a desire to support our community and be part of its unique culture.

  • Anyone can volunteer to support one or more of the events we’re running this year. There are no prerequisites beyond a willingness to help and there’s no upper age limit. You just have to be over 16 years old, and if you’re under 18 you’ll need to get the consent of your parents/guardians.

  • As many of our events are community-run, there are plenty of chances to get involved. You can find opportunities by registering with our volunteering portal.

Throughout the year, we’ll have various volunteer opportunities available, from being an Ambassador at events to supporting the delivery of creative workshops. We’ll also need people to support larger events, whether that’s supporting artists backstage on the day or helping the members of the audience find their seats.

All the volunteer opportunities will be listed on our dedicated volunteer portal.

  • Yes, we need everyone who’d like to volunteer to sign up here so we can easily match volunteers to events.

The portal also offers free online training and we’ll share details of in-person volunteer training sessions too. So you can develop new skills and learn about different aspects of volunteering as well as be part of community events.

  • You can give as much time as you want to volunteering. Some events will need volunteers to help set them up. Others will be looking for people who can help spread the word. And there will be opportunities to volunteer at events themselves.

You can choose volunteering opportunities that work with your availability and align with your passions.

  • No! In fact, if you’ve never volunteered in Wimborne before that’s brilliant because we want to introduce new people to our town’s incredible creative community.

We want to make volunteering a fun experience, so you’ll receive plenty of support from the Town of Culture team. Each volunteer role will be clearly defined and you’ll know what’s expected of you on the day.

  • Yes! We will support all our volunteers at our events by paying expenses where relevant. Speak to your point of contact at the event you’re volunteering for to find out what you can claim.
