The exhibition will reveal how archaeologists uncovered evidence of a major Roman military presence in the area and explain the significance of the fortress, believed to be linked to Vespasian, the Roman commander who would later become Emperor and commission the construction of the Colosseum.
Alongside displays and information about the excavation, visitors will be able to meet the people bringing Wimborne’s Roman past to life and learn more about the archaeology that is continuing to reshape our understanding of the town’s early history.
There will also be interactive activities for all ages, including the opportunity to design a coin for Roman Wimborne, making this a fascinating family-friendly event for history enthusiasts, budding archaeologists and curious visitors alike.
With free entry and plenty to discover, the exhibition offers a unique opportunity to uncover the story of Roman Wimborne and explore one of the area’s most important archaeological finds.
